Write Book Reviews to Fight False Memory Syndrome!
Even though the theories, myths, and misinformation behind the memory recovery
cult have been thoroughly debunked, the books that caused
the epidemic of false accusations continue to be sold and continue
to mislead unwitting new readers. You can help prevent further false accusations
and tragedies by writing negative online reviews of these books at Amazon.com
and BarnesAndNoble.com and warning people
about these books' flaws, mistakes, and misinformation and the danger these
books pose to the unwary. Conversely, you can also encourage people to
read scientifically-based books that may prevent False
Memory Sydrome by writing positive reviews of those books. Every review
helps, and by giving each book a star rating you'll influence the average
rating of all the reader reviews.
Contents:
How to Write a Review
On both sites, you can post a review with your name or anonymously, and
with or without your email address. (On Amazon.com,
you must become a member of the site if you aren't already and log in,
but you can still post anonymously, with or without an email address, thereafter.)
Before writing reviews, be sure to read the Amazon.com
review guidelines and the BarnesAndNoble
review guidelines. Key points to remember:
-
Write one review only for each book, but be sure to submit your review
to both sites!
-
Focus on the book's content.
-
Don't include any URLs in your review. (It would be wonderful if we could
include links to StopBadTherapy.com and similar sites, but the rules forbid
URLs. If you include a URL in your review, it won't be published.)
-
1000 words or less on Amazon.com; 500 words or less at BarnesAndNoble.com.
-
Be sure to give the book the correct number of stars in your review. More
stars means better, so give the books that spread False
Memory Syndrome one star, and give the books that prevent
False Memory Syndrome five stars each. (Giving as few stars or as many
stars as possible helps to push the computed average of all reviews as
far as possible.)
-
On Amazon.com, scroll through the other reviews for each book. For each
one, click Yes or No for the "Was this review helpful to you?" question.
That will cause the reviews we agree with to rise in the list, and the
reviews we disagree with to fall in the list.
Books that Spread False Memory Syndrome
Here is a list of links to some of the books that have contributed to the
spread of False Memory Syndrome. Where the book title is underlined, it
is a link to information refuting the book's contents. Where the author's
name is underlined, it is a link to information about that author on the
Experts
Debunked section of this site. Give each one of these books one star.
Even if you don't have time to write a detailed review, just loggin in
and voting for one star helps change the average rating!
If you know of another book that should be added to this list, email
us the title and author.
